Empowering Youth Through Art
Mission
Brave Young Voices (BYV) is a youth theatre project that offers young people a safe, creative, and non-judgmental space where we honor the young person’s voice. We work with youth ages 12-18 to empower them to “be the change they want to see in the world” and to share their unique and diverse experiences by leading them in performance-based workshops. Our goal is to establish a platform for honest discourse in order to address the healing of our society. We believe that theatre builds community, promotes dialogue among diverse voices, and creates opportunities for voices that have often been quieted.
Vision
We are invested in creating high-quality youth theatre that unites unique voices in an ensemble where diversity is celebrated, and in working towards a shared common goal: creating art that touches, uplifts, and transcends.
BYV brings together a diverse group of young people to learn from one another and to engage in art-making that honors and amplifies their voices by using the power of theatre to share their stories. BYV gives young people the tools to build their confidence and become skilled communicators.
Story
This program was started in response to the idea that everyone has a voice and it should be heard. That in order to heal our fractured nation we need to begin a dialogue that discusses the very issues that fracture us. By gathering diverse voices and coming together to explore these issues, we grow in creating peaceful communities that believe in ACCEPTANCE not tolerance, UNITY not discord, LOVE and not hate - Who better to begin the conversation than young people? How better to hear and digest that message than the arts?
